I’m not a big guest blogger but I have guest posted for several bloggers now and I have a tendency to write longer posts. They’ve all been very well received though with just about as many comments on those posts as I have on mine. I also accept guest posts on my blog, by invitation only, and the longer ones are a huge hit as well. I think it depends on the topic for sure because if they can keep you interested till the very end then you’ve done an excellent job.
I can see where the others would be a bit of a pain, especially not coming back and replying to comments. That’s a big no no altogether in my book.

I’m into guest posting for an year now. Did hundreds of guest posts on various sites. What I learned from it is never write endless paragraph people hate it when they get lengthy paragraphs to read. So make it small but meaningful. Also, we should avoid dictionary words so when people read your article they don’t have to check each words in dictionary.

in general people use guest blogging for attracting backlinks. if there is also interaction with audience, then it’s a plus. but as i said the main reason behind are the links back to the site of the poster
I absolutely have to disagree with you here..
My sole purpose (and everyone I know) to guest posting is to build an audience. Period.
And quite frankly, I am SO over Google.. and the need for backlinks so I can shine for them.
There are just too many other ways to get quality visitors to my site.

Guest posting on well established blog is one of the best way to promote you blog. To get reader redirected to your blog every one must have to follow some instruction and you described above . . Using attractive title and replay to the comment is the best way to do that . if you will write good article containing catchy title you may redirect readers to you own blog also .
