3 ways to increase blog traffic with JetPack

One of the most interesting free WordPress  plugins I have found recently is WordPress’s Jetpack. This is actually WordPress’s product so they have all the reasons to build it with attractive features.

I must admit this plugin is a sweet bundle of excellent features every blogger will like to go for. Some of these features are strategic and very effective in helping you get both repeat and new visits. I’ll be focusing on these 3 features that help us get traffic  in this post though you’ll find the other features as important too.

A few days ago, I decided to bring down many plugins, both free and paid from my blog in a bit to reduce load time. I got tremendous results. However, JetPack survived my harsh decision because of the very little amount of weight it has on my blog - 0.14 sec. That looks reasonable isn’t it for a plugin that does more than one thing.

Installing JetPack

JetPack installation is as easy as installing any other plugin. I have details of this in the video below. Check it out!

How to increase blog traffic with JetPack – Subscriptions

Repeat visitors are those who come to your blog over and over. JetPack makes it sweet and friendly to bring them back to your blog whenever there is a new comment on an article they commented or when there is a new post.  This is done by activating the subscription feature.

subscription

Go to the jetpack dashboard and click “Configure” under “Subscription” This will add 2 checkboxes to your comment form – comment subscription and new post subscription

subscription form

I must confess when I started, I saw these checkboxes on many blogs but didn’t have an idea where they came from. I even had JetPack for some months not knowing this feature. Well, but one day, I decided to take a closer look into it and found the highly wanted checkboxes ;)

How to increase blog traffic with JetPack - Publicize

This feature will automatically share your post to popular social media sites once you click the ‘publish‘ button. I think it’s a big time saver.

publisize

Go to the Jetpack dashboard and click “Configure” under “Publicize” to add your various social media links – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Tumblr.

How to increase blog traffic with JetPack - Sharing Buttons

There are many plugins out there that do this sharing function but I’m afraid you have to take them at the expense of your fast speed. I was using the popular Digg Digg plugin but when I saw the load impact on my blog speed, my eyes got spinning. Don’t get me wrong though! It’s an excellent plugin but I found something just faster.

Go to the Jetpack dashboard and click “Configure” under “Sharing” to set the various buttons and positions.

social shares

Want to know what this looks like? Check the sharing buttons under this post.

I have also shot a video that summarizes these features.

Now JetPack has tons of interesting features but I wanted to bring just these that will help you get more traffic to your blog. It’s quite interesting to have a multiple function plugin like this that respects the speed of your blog.

Now tell me … Do you have Jetpack? What’s your experience with it? Share your thoughts in the comment box below

    Thanks a lot!

  2. Hi Enstine,

Ah…I loved the video that I’d seen early morning today and even left you a comment there – I didn’t know there’d be a post on it as well that so well describes why we should use Jetpack more :)

Yes, I had installed it long back, but the social sharing buttons weren’t all the types I wanted because they didn’t have buffer, and even the Facebook Share button isn’t there I think. I did have DiggDigg too, and it was on Jetpack stats itself that I discovered the amount of loading time that takes, so removed it instantly. Now, I have the Jetpack light version and am pretty happy with it as that is just right for seeing the blog stats or where you are getting your traffic from.

Thanks for sharing this with us, because I do know these social sharing buttons and the other 2 features you mentioned are sure to help those who want less of plugins on their blogs. Have a lovely, and relaxing weekend too :)

    Hi, Enstine.
Great write up. I haven’t watched the video since I am the only one awake around here, but I am sure it is just as good. Jetpack seems great for most casual users. I didn’t see any integration with autoresponders like MailChimp, Aweber, or Constant Contact. If it had that for the posts subscriptions, I think it could replace quite a few of my other plug-ins! Guess I will have to weigh the benefits of having people get all my new posts so easily vs them having to use a sign up form…

    Hi Enstine

Article is well framed. Full points !

But truely and frankly speaking and no offense , Jetpack is old slick.

If i ask for my self Why would one use Jetpack , whats so good it is for ??

    1. Carousel Feature 2. Contact Form 3. Social Sharing (why plugin ? when there is free available quick scripts)

This is heavy weight plugin and additional load on your servers , I always keep plugins to minimum and keep such plugins away when i could easily implement Carousel feature and contact form with php with few hours by Googling.Social sharing buttons i would use addthis/share this quick scripts and implement it on our own.

  7. Thanks a lot for this awesome post on Jetpack Enstine,
Since you introduced me to Jetpack, I’ve never realized all these interesting features. I really like the plugin although, i deactivated it for now though to some personal reasons.

This is really and all in one plugin that every blogger need to have. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    Enjoy your weekend.

  8. Hey Enstine – very well organized and informative post. I use the jetpack plugin, but of the features you mention I only use the subscribe one. Publicize wasn’t updating FB and twitter properly — but maybe they have fixed that recently. The social sharing buttons never appealed to me which is why I use a separate plugin for them.

    Hi Enstine,

I’ve heard about Jetpack and wondered what it was all about. Thanks for a very informative post and another excellent video. I’ve given it a lot of thought, but I’m going to stick with what I have at the moment – I’m happy with the AddThis plugin for my social media sharing buttons and I’m thinking about installing an Aweber plugin to enable subscriptions along with comments. I don’t mind sharing my posts manually when I publish, so at the moment I don’t think there’d be much benefit for me in installing Jetpack. Good to know about it, all the same, Enstine – thanks,

  10. Hello Enstine,
This is indeed one informative post about the jetpack plugin.
I am not using jetpack plugin because of the rumor circulating it, but i do love the idea of multiple plugins embeded to one though. Not sure i am going to install it for now :)

I am 100% sure that this post is going to help those especially the newbie get some valuable traffic.

  11. I agree with you absolutely Enstine, apart from using this wp created “publicize” plugin, i have also find the jetpack stats very useful it has very similar traffic stats record with google analytics.

the jetpack stats just as the publicize is very light when compared with other wp stats recording plugin.

  12. I knew about the Jetpack options, it has been around for a while. The share buttons are amazing, although the aren’t exactly very prominent.

  13. Its no more a news that Jetspack got what it takes to remain one of my favourite plugin..
This plugin is just a perfect one with so many features, and its weight its nothing to talk about..

Thank you for this additional information about Jetspack, many will surely benefits from it..

    Hi Enstine,

JetPack is definitely a good plugin. You have different uses for this one plugin. Another very good package contained in this plugin you did not mention is contact form. Very easily customizable.

Some time ago I was led to erroneously believe that most of those subscription options below the comment box where really doing something else and so I removed the plugin from my blog. However, recently after carefully studying what the plugin can do, I’m now using it for most of niche sites.

    Thanks for this wonderful video.

Jetpack is a really cool plugin.
However I use to only two reasons, one is the subscription option that it offers and other to check out the blog stats.
I have never thought or tried to use the Publicize option simply because I want to do the sharing manually on the social networks.

However jetpack seems to be a great idea as well, Because same thing now can be done without even compromising with your processor speed.
