How To Create Multiple Sources Of Income As Bloggers

Hi friends, today I want us to look at how to create Multiple Sources of income as bloggers.

Sometimes referred to as Multiple income streams or multiple streams of income or simply MSI, this is where you have multiple ways that income flows to your Bank Account. Whether passive or active, this is the only way to wrap yourself  in financial freedom.

Everyone needs financial freedom. Whether you are blogging to make money or simply just doing it for some other reasons, the fact still is that it will be a dangerous position to “put all your eggs in one basket” . If you rely on one source of income, be ready for hard times if it crumbles.

Full time bloggers ~ dangerous postures

I hear so many bloggers say they are full time bloggers.  Somehow, this means blogging is the main thing that fetches money for them. How is this dangerous for you?

  • If you have only one blog: If you have one blog that’s your only source of earnings, think of what happens if this gets hacked and for some unfortunate reasons you loose all your data.
  • If you have many blogs that are hosted on the same server: Think of what happens if for some reasons this server suffers prolonged downtime.
  • Health issues or some misfortune that keeps you away: No one prays for bad times but such times show up some day. We have had many occations where some bloggers are not in very good shape to be able to carry out their blogging activities normally. If you don’t have a solid multiple sources of income, you may suffer very bad effects during such days.

Multiple Sources of Income (MIS) in blogging

As a full time blogger, you need different sources of Income. how do you create MIS?

  • Monetizing your main blog(s) through the various ways (But watch out so you don’t stuff your blog with unnecessary ads)
  • Providing contents on other blogs and be paid.
  • Creating your own products (by yourself or outsourcing) and selling on other platforms
  • Selling your related skills on other platforms.
  • Having other money making blogs hosted on different servers.
  • Developing other related skills that can fetch income
  • Investing in some isolated offline/online business.
  • Etc

multiple sources of income

Part time bloggers

Most part time bloggers don’t blog for money. However, some are doing it to compliment their main source of income. Whatever the case, blogging activities are good sources of passive income.

Avoid confusion

Building solid multiple sources of income is a gradual process. The way you go about it can either encourage or discourage you.

There is so much garbage on the Internet today, promising to make you the next millionaire in 24 hours. That’s absolute nonsense!

Because of the burning desire to make money online and absolute lack of  knowledge, most starters have falling victims to scams, information overload, confusion, discouragement and abandonment. You cannot embrace everything that claims to be an opportunity. You only end up getting frustrated and disappointed.

FOCUS, the best path to  stable multiple sources of income.

Yes! the keyword here is focus. The only way to bring any source of income to maturity is focus. Have you identified what works for you? Focus on it! Rinse and repeat until it is stable. Once you are stable (or close to stability), you can then start building another source of income. Don’t try all at once except you know what you are doing.

If you truly want to be able to work less and earn more, you must embrace this concept of multiple sources of income. You must also be very specific on your goals and objectives.

I know you know what multiple sources of income is all about. I’d like to hear your thoughts too about it. Leave your comments below and share this post with friends.

Thanks for reading!

  2. Thanks Enstine for this post. Every blogger that truly craves for financial freedom must consider adding different streams of income.

  3. Awesome thoughts. I agree with you that we should not depend only on one blog or one site. We can create two or more blogs and websites using different web hosting. This is incredible. I have never thought of this before. But it happened to me a couple of weeks ago. The server of my blog was down I often got error message and some loading trouble. This insisted me to move to another web host service.

Because adsense can be banned any time, this is just one example.

  9. Hi Enstine,

Those are surely some wonderful ways to create income as bloggers, something that all of would love to know about. :)

Honestly speaking, this isn’t an area I’ve given much of thought to, though a lot of advertisers do come up with offers but sometimes the advts aren’t suitable or else there are other issues. I agree, our blog shouldn’t be the only source of income for us, especially if we have just a single blog, which you rightly mentioned can land up in trouble due to various reasons, which might put a hold on our earnings. I’m glad that I’m a professional freelance writer and earn from writing and not from my blog, which was solely made to connect and reach out to people and help them in the best possible way, by sharing my experience and knowledge.

Yes indeed, we keep reading a lot about the fast ways to earn money overnight and all those scams that often add to the confusion of most people, and that’s something they shouldn’t fall into. Focusing on what you want, and then getting into action is the key, and to be at it – till you achieve it should be your goal too.

Thanks for sharing this with us. Have a nice day ahead. :)

Good to see you here today and thanks for your brilliant comment. I’m also glad to know you are a professional freelance writer. That knowledge is good to me ;)

Though a good chunk of cash can be made by reviewing products, we have to be very careful what we publish to our readers. Not every product is suitable for ones audience. I like your position on that.

  10. Hello Enstine,

Single source of income can be extremely dangerous especially for an online business. So I totally agree with the points you have put up in the post above.

Many bloggers just focus on AdSense and earn well. But it can be dangerous and no one can tell when an AdSense account is gonna get banned.

    Thank You! :)

  11. Hi Enstine,

This is a hot topic at the moment – I’ve read a few other posts on a similar theme and you raise a very important point. I haven’t started trying to make money from my blog at the moment and I’m increasingly aware that it’s not a good idea to throw all your eggs in one basket. I have a few ideas for generating income and plan to build more sites on different servers, rather than just relying on my main blog.

Thanks for these tips – very helpful and timely for me,

  12. Good post my man,
My own definition of FOCUS is Follow One Cause Until Success. One problem that we bloggers always have is trying to catch two birds at a time which will finally lead us to loosing both birds.

Multiple streams of income is what we should always focus our mind on because its very bad to have all our eggs in one basket.

    Nice post bro.

BTW: I just uploaded my I.D a they requested. But i made mistake while filling that form, the address i used is different from what is on my card. Must they be the same?

  14. Hi Enstine,

So, why would Adsense be banned? *confuse* I thought Google owned them. So why would they ban their own stuff? I don’t think I understand this.

Also, I disagree having several blogs. This is so different from what I’ve learned from Steve Scott (6-figure income man). All he had was ONE blog and ONE niche. I used to have 7 domains and dropped all of them because one blog is more than enough. Driving the traffic to my blog is hard enough. Let alone have 2-7 blogs! I’m not sure if this is a good advice for “beginners.” It is confusing.

I just started blogging since January 2013. And although I’m not new on the Internet, I’m pretty new on blogging.

However, I do agree with you on Adsense! I think this is a waste of my time. So who cares to earn a few cents here and there? I would rather have a PPC that would pay me $20-40 per 100 clicks! Adrienne Smith told me that I don’t need to have 2 blogs to make an income. Steve Scott is a proven model who made 6-figure income from ONE blog & niche alone. So you are making $$ from having several blogs?

You said FOCUS. You can focus on several blogs? Then I commend you for that. Anyway, found you on Adrienne’s blog. Came here to pay you a visit.

    • Hi Angela,
Good to see you here and thanks for linking up from Adrienne’s blog. She’s got one of the blogs I visit on daily basis. Thanks too for your contribution.

There are several reasons behind Google’s action. In as much as they want as many sites as possible to publish their ads, they won’t sit back and watch fraudsters deal with them. There is so much in terms of click fraud so they have a set of rules that must be obeyed. Any attempt to violate this meets with account suspension.

I respect your position on having several blogs. Steev and several others have just a single blog but I don’t think that blog is the only source of their income. They have other activities (maybe in blogging) that generate income. Truth is, focusing on one blog can make it grow rapidly and it can be a handsome source of earnings. However, if that blog is your only source of income, you are putting your eggs in one basket ;)

It’s possible to focus on more than 1 blog but that comes with time as I mentioned. My idea of focus is to bring one thing to stability before embracing something else. By the time your single blog gets a steady flow of traffic and maybe several guest authors, you may have available time to start off some other blog.

BTW, Big Four Internet Marketing? I’m off to check that out on your blog

I do really hope to see you here again Angela with more thought provoking contributions
Enstine Muki recently posted..Hire me to Install, Configure and Secure your blog!My Profile (dofollow)

      • Exactly. That’s what Adrienne told me. If your 1st blog’s traffic is stabilized then maybe starting the 2nd blog is not such a bad idea.

I think with Steve Scott, I also follow his blog. But guess lately he’s not been blogging because he’s got other projects that he’s trying to finish. Perhaps another eBook. I know that “affiliate marketing” is not the only source of income for him or just by having ONE blog. I’m sure that his other source of income is by having his “own product” such as his eBook. BTW, I just purchased it his eBook: “Affiliate Marketing Without the Bullsh**t” still reading it, it has 8 module and I’m only on number #2. Anyway, hope to talk more later.

  17. Hello Enstine,

I think there’s a bad side to everything we do, we can’t worry about it before it happens, we can only takes cautions and prevention. we can’t dwell on it forever after it happens, either we can correct it or move on.

For me, Start with one thing and take it to the end. Don’t run for too many things at same time, you’ll lose everything. So I’m in favor of starting one blog and after establishing it we can think about another one. Monetize it with single method and see how it goes after that you can think of putting another. And always keep your readers in your mind, don’t make your blog look like those spammy blogs out there.

Monetize your blog in a way that it gives you profit as wall as attracts your readers not distract them. And always keep one thing in your mind, “don’t start what you can’t finish.”

    Anyways, Quite interesting posts. :)

This is where I think Seth Godin and Steve Scott have a good point, also Guy K.
Focus on publishing your premium stuff on platforms independent of your blog, like amazon and iTunes.

That way even if you delete your site your audience can still buy your stuff and your income stream is still making you money.

Backlinks are key factor used by search engines to determine your rankings. The more authentic backlinks you have the better the chances of getting a better position.

There are ways to get them: blog commenting, guest posting, articles on article sites, web 2.0 properties, directory submissions, etc
