How to be a successful blogger in 2013!

Every blogger wants to be successful. Whether you are blogging full or part time, there will be no need blogging if you know your end is failure. The main reason you do all you do is to hit success at the end.

For those of you who were already in the industry by the end of 2011, I’m sure your ambitions and wishes for 2012 were high. If you added hard work to your wishes, I won’t be wrong to believe that you have achieved some success by now.

Becoming a successful blogger in 2013!

successful blogger

If you want more success in 2013, you must sit and look back and ask yourself these 2 questions:

  1. Where did I fail in 2012?
  2. Where did I get good results in 2012?

A closer look into your works and strategies in 2012 will provide enough data for 2013. If you got some success in 2012, that’s indication that you can be more successful in 2013.

NB: Failing to plan is planning to Fail.

These few questions may help you come out with 2012′s success points that can be rinsed and repeated for greater success in 2013:

  • Did I publish my link somewhere that brought in more exposure and traffic?
  • What strategies did I activate that brought in more Facebook likes and Twitter Followers?
  • How many groups did I join on Facebook?
  • Did I sign up to any community that helped my blog with more traffic?
  • Did I attend any blogging live event?
  • Did I host a contest or Giveaway on my blog?
  • Was I fully involved in commenting on other related blogs?
  • Did I really guest post on other blogs?
  • Did I help someone start a blogging journey?
  • How many articles did I publish a week?
  • How did I get ideas for blog posts?
  • Did I associate myself with the right people?
  • How much did I spend on my blog and what was the return ?
  • Did I have the right plugins and theme?
  • What was my SEO strategy?

I’m sure these and many more questions will help.

Now, here is what I think for 2013…

  • Get CommentLuv Premium if you don’t have it already. This will surely bring a change on your blog in 2013.
  • If you are just starting or struggling to get your blog noticed, check out this post and possibly grab Kiesha’s Game-Plan.
  • Sign up and be active on bloggers.com and quora.com. These will help you build more relationship and get more traffic.
  • If you want to dominate Twitter this year 2013, be sure to join JustRetweet and EasyRetweet. These are all free.
  • Make sure your blog is secured. There are going to be more bad guys this year 2013.
  • Be sure to read, comment and share others’ articles. That’s surely going to get you noticed.
  • Write for other blogs in your niche (Guest Posting). You get more exposure and traffic.
  • Be regular in posting relevant and helpful contents on your blog.
  • Get the right tools.
  • Sign up and be active on blogging communities like BlogEngage.
  • Start building a list.
  • Attract more popular bloggers to your blog.
  • Be calm and patient.

Conclusion

Don’t be discouraged if 2012 was that bad year for you. Just give 2013 a try. Don’t identify with the weak who abandon. If others can make it, you too can be a successful blogger in 2013 and beyond.

Now, I’d like to hear from you. Comment below and add your thoughts. I’m sure your friends will also like to read this. Please share with them on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Thank You ;)

One quick way to fail in WordPress and blogging is trying to learn the hard way - by searching for free videos and tips. That's like trying to complete a HUGE jiggsaw puzzle, for which the pieces always don't fit.

There's a better solution though...

Kim Castleberry and her team have worked hard to assemble great collection of video tutorials that you can download and get started with right now. Most of them even include transcripts in case the text format works better for you! Everything was created with the absolute beginner in mind, so you'll never feel like you're listening to a rambling tech geek. Download the videos

    Hey Enstine,

Nice post, all the important points were covered nicely.

I stepped into blogging in 2012 so I cannot really judge if I had a good year or not because of lack of experience.

However there were a few ups and downs. I won a lot of giveaways, did a good amount of guest blogging, commented on related blogs and forged great friendships, my blog has grown but not in leaps and bounds.

Negatives? My blog was hacked and it’s back now but that was a learning experience and being a part-timer (I’m a medical student) I wasn’t able to fully harness the potential of my blog.

All in all a good year in blogging, no major disappointments and hoping for a good 2013.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you :)

  11. This is a great list, sometimes I have a tendency to think it must be product, price, or even website design. When I look at your list, I see these are good points, and that I have failed at many of them.

  12. Hi Enstine, hope you had a great Christmas my friend!

Great post and the one thing I’m sure to focus a lot more in 2013 will be guest posting (both accepting them on my blog and writing guest posts on other great blogs like yours).

Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for 2013… Have a Happy New Year :)

    Hi Enstine,
Thanks a million for taking time to stop by my blog and commenting.
I have summed up all of these great points below:
    1) Reflect on your blogging journey over the past year. Pat yourself on the back for good results, and change strategies for better results where things did not go so well.
    2) Work more with other bloggers. Socialise in the right places with the right people – associate, collaborate, deliberate and contribute.
    3) Use the right tools to get the right results.
I’m excited and 100% with you on this one, success to you and all my fellow bloggers.
    Cheers.

  14. Hi Enstine,

Since reading post last week, I have increased by networking, and published 2 articles. Thanks for reminding me not to sit back and hope without doing the required work.

That will be great if you attract and hook up with more like-minded bloggers this year. As you know, success in blogging comes with networking.

      Good luck!

    Hi Enstine,

    Great tips here.

I think worth an add would be consistency. Whether it’s once a week or every day, consistent writing will take your blog further than you ever thought possible.

Sometimes it’s hard because blogging is a long term strategy, but keeping a consistent schedule works wonders.

That, combined with all the other great tips you gave, makes for a winning plan.

    Have a great day!

    ~Christine

At least I want to share information and make a mutual relationship with others. And this year will be a good start for me growing my web blog. Hi Enstine!
That looks like an invaluable checklist. For me, the most important change in the field of blogging was JOINING A BLOGGING TEAM.
Even though I wrote around 40 posts (mostly DIY guides) within a couple of months in 2010 and had reached around 4000 visits/month on my blog (deleted in 2011) the momentum just wasn’t there.
Being pulled in a dozen directions like content creation, monetization, design, SEO etc. in addition to being in college had made blogging more of a chore rather than being fun.
When I joined Justin’s Dragonblogger.com in May 2011, I was exposed to the FUN ONLY side of blogging to a HUGE readership. The fact that my articles were being read by 100s within hours of publication itself was a great motivation, apart from the diverse tech, entertainment and gaming ideas spilling out of a dynamic and cohesive team of excellent writers and video bloggers.
Joining Seun at Sbabzy.com has been an entirely new experience, where I can enjoy the benefits of a large audience apart from doing my share in shaping a rapidly evolving blog dedicated to creating and sharing truly diverse ideas ranging from Personal Development to Breaking News, Business and Career Advice to SEO and Social Media Navigation.
Fortunately for me, both these guys are GENUINE as well as SMART and DEDICATED.
Being part of a productive team of bloggers is, in my opinion, the SMARTEST way forward in 2013 and beyond.
